Parish Theme: Heroes

"Save the cheerleader, save the world."  This cry became the core foundation of the first few episodes of last season's hottest TV sensation, "Heroes."  The premise of the series is that living in our midst are individuals endowed with special gifts that have the power to change things.  The author of Hebrews reminds us that we live in a world in the company of individuals endowed with special gifts as well, and the ONE gift that unites them all is that of faith. These individuals are heroes, and their core foundational cry is "Cheer the Leader who saves the world."

Every year, Fall to Summer, we at Bethany have a Parish Theme.  This theme sets a tone and focus for our spiritual formation in a particular area of the faith.  This year we have been listening, learning and looking into the stories of some of the Heroes of the faith.  They are a mixture of men and women, from Old and New Testaments, people well known and some unfamiliar to many, but each is a hero who leads us to Cheer the Leader who saves the world.

The Heroes of Scripture we've been introduced to this year have taken us from Samaria to Gaza, from Babylon to Jerusalem. Below are links to each month's Hero and the sermon and Bible study about them.

September  - The Samaritan Woman
October - Phillip
