The Story in Review-  Chapter Seven

Yogi Berra was famous for making quotes that are ridiculous or redundant; perhaps none more famous than, “it’s like déjà vu all over again.”  Chapter seven finds us in longitude and latitude terms in the exact same place we were (the Israelites were) 40 years earlier.  What has change is neither the longitude nor latitude of the people but the attitude of the people.  This nation is one that trusts and depends on God to do what it can’t do for itself, hence this nation is unlike any other for it is a community of faith.

The core of this story is not first and foremost obeying God but rather first and foremost believing Him.  The previous generation didn’t even have a chance to do, that is march in and fight the other nations, blew the horns and watch the walls come down, forsake the loot for the sake of the Lord etc. because the previous generation simply did not believe God, who had defeated Pharaoh and the Egyptians could defeat the “giants” living in the land of promise.

This generation obeys, follows and goes, because they believe.   The more the story changes the more it stays the same, for we too are called to believe and obey, or to have our faith lead our feet.
