The Story in Review- Chapter Seventeen
The immediate reality that chapter 17 deals with is the fall of Jerusalem and the exile of its citizens to Babylon. In this section of the story we see a government perform its alien work. Government is an institution of God and a gift of God intended to punish evil and protect and promote good. In this chapter we see God use government to punish and prune His people, the church.
Yet, His people are not left without promise and provision. God’s prophets who warned of the pending destruction following its advent turn to proclaim hope, restoration and days of return for god will not forever abandon His people nor his oath given to Abraham and David.
