The Story in Review- Chapter Twenty-three
We are on the threshold of Holy Week according to the
Liturgical calendar. If you’ve been
attending Mid-week Lenten worship you know our theme has been, “Who do people
say I am?” Some said Elijah. The reason why was the prophecy that Elijah
would return to proceed the Messiah.
Jesus declares that that prophecy is fulfilled in John the Baptist.
Interestingly enough, though Jesus bids people to keep quiet about His identity and forbids the demons to declare His divine nature when He forces them from their victims; He Himself clearly reveals who He is in the two key encounters to our text: the one with the well known Pharisee Nicodemus and the unnamed Samaritan woman. On both occasions Jesus shares that He is LIFE.
