Q: Why Bethany Lutheran Preschool?

Answer:  Bethany has been providing a developmental preschool program for over 40 years in the Long Beach/Lakewood community. The program is accredited by the National Lutheran Schools Accreditation Commission of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.

Bethany Lutheran Preschool focuses on a whole-child approach ensuring your child is emotionally, socially, cognitively,  creatively, and physically ready for Kindergarten.  In every setting, the preschool helps promote the value and character qualities taught at home while introducing your children to Jesus.

Q: Your school is called “Bethany Lutheran.”  What is a “Lutheran” anyway?

Answer:  “Lutherans” are Christians who respond to the love of the Triune God...Father, Son, and Holy Spirit...who has revealed Himself through the Bible. “Lutherans” accept and teach the Bible-based teachings of Martin Luther that inspired the reformation of the Christian Church in the 16th century. The teaching of Luther and the reformers can be summarized in three short phrases: Grace alone, Faith alone, Scripture alone. We are affiliated with the Pacific Southwest District of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.

Q: I am not Lutheran.  May my child attend your school?

Answer:  You do not have to be Lutheran to attend our school. Bethany Lutheran School has students from many faith backgrounds. If you do not have a church home and are seeking one, we encourage you to consider Bethany.

Q:  What are the preschool’s hours?

Answer:  Children enrolled for part-day arrive at 8:30 am and leave at 12:00 noon.  We open at 7:00 am and close at 5:30 pm for full-day students.

Q:  What is the teacher/student ratio?

Answer:  Each classroom has one or two fully qualified teachers.  Our younger classes on average have a ratio of 1:8 during the instructional portion of the day, and our older classes have on average a ratio of 1:12 during the instructional portion of the day.

Q:  How many students attend the preschool?

Answer:  We are licensed for 81 children per day spread across seven classrooms.

Q:  Which classroom or age group will my child be in?

Answer:  Students are placed in a classroom that is appropriate for their age.  Typically, it is based on the child’s chronological age (on September 1st) and developmental needs.

Q:  Do preschool children wear uniforms?

Answer:  No.  We encourage the children to wear comfortable clothing that can be easily laundered because learning is messy.
